Our People
Allen Youngman
President
Allen has been in the scrap metal business since 1974. He began as a yard worker for a small family-owned business, doing everything from sorting metals and torching steel to operating cranes, loaders and trucks. He progressed through operations to management, and in 1984 started Lakeside Scrap Metals as a small retail scrap yard. He worked the scale and sorted metals while following a path of slow but consistent growth.
In 1994, Allen started Lakeside’s wholesale trading operation. The company continues to grow today, and he now owns and operates four facilities with nearly 50 employees.
The operations include Lakeside Scrap Metals wholesale division on Miles Avenue, two small retail yards – Lakeside at Broadway Avenue and Streetsboro Metal Recycling – as well as Cleveland Scrap, a full-service steel and nonferrous yard.
Jerry Brown
Executive Vice President
Jerry has been in the scrap metal business since 1973, when he began his career as a buyer for a local scrap company. In 1982, he started his own company, where he served as President and COO until his retirement in 2001. He built an organization that handled over 250 million pounds of various grades of aluminum per year. After being retired for nearly 10 years, he wanted to “get back into the game”. Jerry joined the Lakeside family in May of 2011 as Executive Vice President. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in marketing, sales and management.
Melanie Zeda
Trader Nonferrous Metals
Melanie joined Lakeside Scrap Metals in 1999 as receptionist and office assistant responsible for traffic management and brokerage contract applications. Since then she has mastered key aspects of the scrap industry, advanced to positions of increasing responsibility, and currently works as a trader in nonferrous metals.
Sue Herb
Trader, Ferrous & Nonferrous Metals
Sue brings with her 25 years of scrap metal experience to Lakeside Scrap Metals. She has been an industrial scrap metals buyer since the beginning of her career and progressed to managing three divisions, including an aluminum smelter. Sue is a past chairman of the American Foundrymen’s Society-Canton Chapter, and the Northern Ohio Chapter of ISRI. She has vast knowledge of all ferrous and non-ferrous metals and is looking forward to the challenge of building on Lakeside’s extensive customer base.
Pat Glause
Comptroller
Pat combines an accounting degree with years of experience in the metals business where she co-owned a mini steel mill with her husband. She joined Lakeside in 2004 and has implemented new processes and software programs to streamline financial operations. In addition to financial oversight at Lakeside Scrap Metals, Pat acts as comptroller for all Lakeside sister companies.

Our History
Lakeside Scrap Metals, Inc. was established in 1984 by Allen Youngman. The company started as a small nonferrous retail shop in Cleveland, Ohio. Shortly after its first year, Lakeside moved from its original 2100 square foot building to a 10,000 square foot facility on Broadway Avenue. As the company continued to grow, it opened its second facility, a 30,000 square foot plant on East 55th Street in 1994. Lakeside has since moved the 55th Street operation to its “new” facility at 15000 Miles Ave. In 2002, Allen became involved in the yard now known as Cleveland Scrap. In October of 2006, he took full control of the operation with his son Jake. In July of 2008, the company opened Streetsboro Metal Recycling, a small retail operation designed to be a feeder yard to the larger yards in the Lakeside “family”.
